How long have you been playing guitar?
Well, Musicgirl, I'm glad you asked that. I have actually been playing the guitar for almost 4 years now. I started on my dad's old classical guitar and then I got my first guitar for my birthday.
Do you remember the first song you learned?
I don't know.... I remember some of my first songs were the DcTalk version of "it's the end of the world as we know it".... "save tonight" by Eagle Eye Cherry, and "kiss me" by Sixpence
Do you remember the first chord you learned?
I think it might have been G or Em... maybe C I don't really know
What made you decide to learn the guitar?
My daddy plays guitar and it's just really cool
What kind of guitar(s) do you own?
I have an Epiphone acoustic which I love dearly named Hal, and an absolutely beautiful American-made Fender Strat named Emily (she's purple)
What are your favorite guitar brands?
well I'd have to say that Taylor's are extremely nice guitars.
Do you play any other instruments?
I played the violin for a while, and I can bang around on the piano alright.... I like to play the bass, and I'm learning to play the drums.
Do you have any advice for beginner guitarists?
Oh most surely.... don't be scared about strum patterns.. just find one you like and the rest will come as you get better. Pretty soon, the strumming will just come naturally.
Favorite guitarist?
Shane Barnard and Monte Montgomery are two amazing guitarists (although not well known)
Favorite song to play?
I like to play my own stuff more than anything
Musical influences?
hmm well I dunno... I think I just pick stuff up here and there
Musical inspiration?
music is an outlet to express yourself so almost any emotion can be inspiration... from worship to just getting things out that are on your mind.
Random comments?
"If there was this big hurricane and it flooded and stuff and somehow this little small dog made it through the storm and ended up on your front door the next day... I think a good name for that dog would be Carl."
"Don't let anyone else drive your bus"
UPDATE:
It is June 2003 now. I think Lauren has been playing for six years now. I remember when I started playing I asked her how long she had been, and I think she said four years. So since I've been playing for two and a half years, that would make it 6-7 years for her.
