Emily Interview

How long have you been playing guitar?

about january 2002, seriously since august 2002

Do you remember the first song you learned?

sanctuary, taught to me by justin stone, of all people

Do you remember the first chord you learned?

no, but it might have been G

What made you decide to learn the guitar?

I wanted to lead worship for World Changers, and during Junior year World Changers I decided to start playing. And then there was praise band at Forest Cove. I wanted to be like Lauren Davis. :)

What kind of guitar(s) do you own?

I have an Ibanez Accoustic, no pick-up, just the guitar

What is your favorite guitar brand?

I don't really have a favorite, but I like my Ibanez and Brandon's Taylor. :)

Do you play any other instruments?

I sing, does that count?

(of course it does! =) )

Do you have any advice for beginner guitarists?

Don't be discouraged if you aren't the best right away. It does take time, and sometimes it takes longer than you want it to, but it will come eventually. And don't be afraid to play with people that are better than you. That's a good way to learn, and most of the time, they love to teach you.

Favorite Song to play:

I like to play my songs, but my favorite to play right now is my song called Blood-stained Glasses, cause I re-wrote it and it sounds cool. But I love playing worship songs too.

Favorite Guitarist:

Shane Barnard as the famous one, Daryl Douglas as the one I know personally.

Musical Influences:

Shane Barnard, Lauren Davis, Brandon Bennett, Daryl Douglas, Evanescence, Not All That Great, Chevelle, and the list goes on.

Musical Inspiration:

Scripture definately, life experiences that I'm going through at the time, issues with friends and family, lessons God is teaching me, and sometimes they're kinda just prayers out to God with music put to them.

Random comments?

When I first started playing guitar, I never thought that I would end up where I am. Music has become such a huge part of who I am and I can't imagine not playing guitar. It's a way for me to worship, and it's a way for me to express things that I couldn't express any other way. I love to share my songs with people, and God continues to allow me to get better at playing. It blows my mind, and I love it. Truly, God is the talent in me, and without him, I wouldn't be able to do anything. I love to see him work through me and my songs to touch other people, and I know he'll continue to do that if I let him. To all those who play, Rock on!!
