THE TOWN

The town of San Fernando is the capital of Pampanga. It was founded in 1754 during the reign of King Ferdinand VI, and was placed underthe patronage of King Ferdinand III of Spain, a soldier and saint. The town was not that prominent during the Spanish regime for the reason that Bacolor was still the provincial capital. It was in August 15, 1904, under the instructions of Gov. Macario Armedo, that the provincial capitol was transferred to San Fernando, thus sparking its rise. San Fernando has a total land area of 6,843.73 hectares divided into 35 barangays. Pampanga, the province which contains San Fernando, is very rich in history. Its civilisation traces its roots to 1249 A.D. to the people of the Sultanate of Achen in Northern Sumatra who were believed to have spoken Capampangan. When the Madjapahit Empire expanded its domain under Emperor Rajah Sawardhanadewi (1294-1309 A.D) it eventually covered Achen.

Sometime in 1335 A.D., the Achen people tried to seek freedom under Prince Balagtas and migrated, eventually finding themselves in inland settlements along the Rio Grande in Pampanga and Rio Chico in Nueva Ecija. There, they established the Capampangan Empire which took all of the provinces of what is known today as Tarlac, Pampanga, Nueva Ecija, and Bataan, as well as some parts of Bulacan, Zambales and Pangasinan.

THE FAMILY

The Dayrit Family is believed to have originated from Apalit, Pampanga. Due to the scarcity of records in the town of San Fernando, not much is known of the family patriarch, DON MARIANO DAYRIT y JUAN. He was born in San Fernando around 1850 to DON FABIAN DAYRIT y BINUYA of San Fernando and DOŅA FULGENCIA JUAN y CONCEPCION of Mexico, Pampanga. His maternal grandparents were GREGORIO JUAN and JUANA CONCEPCION.

The father of Don Fabian is most probably DON JUAN DAYRIT who was gobernadorcillo of San Fernando in 1839.  The father of Don Juan Dayrit is believed to be DON VICENTE DAYRIT who was gobernadorcillo in 1791 and 1796.  The grandfather of Don Vicente is believed to be DON PEDRO DAYRIT who was gobernadorcillo of Apalit in 1730.

It is said that Don Juan married a Binuya from Apalit.  It is believed that her father was DON FRANCISCO BINUYA who was gobernadorcillo in Apalit in 1891 and 1894.  DON MIGUEL BINUYA who was gobernadorcillo in 1723 is believed to be her great-grandfather.  Other Binuyas who served as gobernadorcillo of Apalit include her grandfather DON PABLO BINUYA who served in 1758 and 1784, DON JOSE BINUYA, a possible uncle, in 1767, and DON FAUSTO BINUYA, another possible uncle, in 1779.

Don Mariano died in the same town on 4 April 1907 of tuberculosis. He was one of our nation's freedom fighters and served in the revolutionary government as "hefe del pueblo de San Fernando" in 1899. It is said that he helped the revolutionary forces with timber from his lands which they used as barges for transpotation along the San Fernando River.

The family matriarch is DOŅA MARIA SINGIAN, also from San Fernando. She was born in 1849 and died of cerebral hemorrhage on 23 September 1905.

Both their remains could be located in the Cathedral of the Assumption in San Fernando. However, due to renovations, only part of the tomb stone of Doņa Maria can be seen.

The couple were blessed with eight children...
