My trip to Kumköy, Side, Turkey, May 25 - June 5, 2002

”Merhaba”! I have been to Turkey now too. Left Sweden May 29, 2002 and spent a week in Kumköy close to Side in the South of Turkey. Went with my parents and we had a really good time together. Didn´t do very much, except from taking it very easy. Went to the beautiful beaches, and also used the hotel swimmingpool a lot. The hotel was called Sun Suite Center. We also did a lot of shopping. I bought a lot of beautiful cloths, and also a small woodentable which was carved out, and I also bought a beautiful silverbracelet. The weather was very good except for one day when it was raning cats and dogs. There were also a lot of thunderstorms and lightnings. One day we went on a boatcruise with the ship called Alladdin to Side harbour and also to the Manavgatriver. Followed the beutiful river to the city of Manavgat. This cruise was very funny. You could either swim in the Mediterranean or in the river. The river is coming from the mountains, so the temperature of the water in the river was approxamately +13C, while on the other hand the water in the Mediterranean was around +22-23C. And yes, I was a Viking. I swam in the river! :-) The temperature in the air was between +25C-30C every day. The Turkish food was wonderful. Really loved it, and the Turkish people were also very friendly. I was just surprised that they seemed to know better German than English. Many people didn´t speak English at all. So I was quite happy that I had not forgotten my German. I was also surprised that I met a few guys working in the shops who spoke Swedish. Believe it or not! In all it was a very nice vacation. And I had a nice tan when I got back to Sweden again! So, I can really recommend Turkey. Kind of exotic. I even went to the hairdresser in Turkey. A guy cut my hair nicely for only 3 Euro. Cheap huh? The most funny moment was when he was going to remove hair from my ears. Not that I am a warewolf or something, but most people have at least some hair on their ears. He burned the hair off with a huge flame! I thought he was going to burn my head off, but I managed to get out of the shop with my head still on! LOL Feel free to watch my pics here. Leaving you here with the words ”Güle güle” in Turkish!

My mom and I aboard the ship Alladdin on the the Manavgat river

This is the lamp of Alladdin! LOL :-)

Me aboard the same boat in the harbour in Manavgat, ready to sail back to Side harbour. From Side we were going in busses back to Kumköy

Those Turkish guys were entertaining us all on the boat singing and dancing and playing jokes with the passengers. TURKISH LIRAS! Just had to show you a real "turkey" on this page as this page is about Turkey! LOL

Here you can see the waterfall of Manavgat. Beautiful, but you can´t compare it to the Victoriafalls! But I think this is the only waterfall existing in Turkey, so it is very exotic there.

:-) This is the so called "Safaribus", we were passengers on when they drove us to the ship and from it. Sort of rebuilt lorries. We almost felt like cattle at first, and my mom was quite afraid riding in it. In front of the buses you can see my parents. Turkish Minaret in Kumköy
