I really liked this episode, even if the plotline was pretty pathetic. Ya sort of have to give way as a BtVS fan; either good character devmpt, or good plot. It is v.rare to find both in one package. Anyhoo, this was a definate Faith-Buffy episode. (I mean please, the Jabba-the-Hut thing happening here is not even review-worthy.) It's great how now that we're deeper in to s3, more eps count as 'real' without having to be about Angel. (Of course, the coupla scenes with hime are by far the best!)

And I know I'm alone in this, but God dammit, I like Faith. Not only does she look really sexy and suave, but she has edge. She lends the show a hardness and violence that is intriguing, and her character itself is quite complex. Plus, love the leather. (BTW, she and Buffy look damn good together!)

It's to the credit of the script writers that Faith has such depth after such little screen time. Already we know that she has had a turbulent past of violence and sorrow, that she has serious trust issues, does not let people get close, is totally independent, hardened, jaded, worldly, gets high on sex and slaying, loves danger, like to make men vulnerable, uses them for their other brains and then discard them before they can hurt her, and that she puts on a hard, mean front to suffocate the conscience that silently plagues her. Heck, we know more about Faith than we do about Willow.

And I know I'm not supposed to, but I liked the bad influence she had on the Buffster; it was good to see Buffy be bad again. Fave was the nightclub scene. How HOT was that dance scene!! Talk about a high. Oh, and who didn't crack up laughing when Buffy jumped on Angel like that?! And the look on his face! ROTFL! For all his seriousness, I think he secretly liked seeing this wild side of the Buff, especially since she was all over him like htat! Hope he didn't get a potential happy! Hee hee hee.

But if I were Buffy at that mo, I would have gotten damn annoyed at Angel. He is always full of danger news. Does he ever come to see her just cuz? Liked the kiss he gave her when he left, though. Very relationshippy. The second kiss of the season, huh? BTW, what's with the leather jacket they've given him? Get rid of it, we want the big black coat back, Joss. NOW.

On the subject of clothing, decided tha you can track Buffy's character devmpt according to her outfit. Beginning of this ep: pretty in pink - good slayer. Later: tight black leather - bad slayer. Later still: black coat - subdued slayer. End: baby blue dress with blue coat - good slayer again. PS, how much would I slay for Buffy's wardrobe! The endless supply of gorgeous jackets!

Now, compare with Faith: black all thoughout except for when she kills Alan, when she's porting a white top (her conscience) underneath a black vest thing. And end scene, she's wearing a white singlet, and washing the blood out of the white top she was wearing before (wiping clean her conscience of memory). And when Angel came to warn Buffy after the murder scene, he's wearing an unusually white shirt under the leather - conscience pang. And they say BtVS is unrealistic trash.

Not lovin how they've got back to token Angel scenes. OK, not so obviously anymore, but still. Can't you DO something with him, Joss, instead of making him into her lackey advisor guy? He's lapsed back into the pre-Angelus S2 Angel that I so disliked. Damn, and he was doing the tormented act so well. Develop his character, peoples; you've done it with Faith, how hard can it be?!

Weird how Buffy became so overpowered by the thrill of the kill, eg. chem test scene at school. Was she sort of under a slayer high thing? It really didn't seem like her. New Watcher's a spunky-dori, huh? Loved the line about his good looks. LOL. Nice to see how Buff's rubbed off on Giles, while he still retains his Englishness (glasses-wiping vs sarcasm). Not liking how they've been tokening Cordy ever since "The Wish". We need to see her and Angel dynamics before the Angel series airs. And more Oz- Will please. What they heck's happening with them? Overall though, good show.
