When the sunlight hit my eyes, I had to close them. I’d been in the class room for like two hours, and my legs were numb. That was definitely the most boring class ever.
I reopened my eyes and stopped in my tracks, “Taylor?”
“Tayler,” he smiled. He held up the hand that had been at his side. In it was a daisy.
“Are you joking?” I giggled happily, taking it from him. I jumped into his arms and kissed his cheek. It wasn’t really his cheek though… more like… the corner of his mouth. It was dangerously close. “Thanks,” I blushed as I let him go.
“Wanna get something to eat?” he pretended not to notice the close proximity our mouths had just been in. He took my hand.
“Uhh… well, of course I do, but…” I stammered, “I really didn’t expect you to be here… Dave usually meets me after class.” I twirled the daisy in my hand.
“You know what that reminds me of?” he pointed to the flower, ignoring my comment.
“What?”
“Those shoes you wore on our picnic with the daisies on them.”
“Oh yea, with that yellow checked dress,” I paused to laugh, “that was way too small for me.”
“That was way see-through in the rain?”
“Shut up.”
“I’m gonna go home,” he was still laughing, punching shy shoulder.
“Why? Don’t leave…”
“But you just said that Dave-”
“I don’t care… You can come with us. We were just going to go to a diner.”
“I can just see you later.”
“Don’t be stupid.”
“Are you sure?”
I saw Dave down the stairs of his building. He waved. When he got to us, he said hi politely and high-fived Taylor.
“You don’t care if Tay gets something to eat with us, do you?” I kind of hung on Dave’s arm pleadingly.
“Why would I?”
I looked across the table at Tay and smiled. He winked at me while Dave was putting ketchup on his burger.
“How was class?” I asked Dave without taking my eyes away from Tay’s.
“Boring as f*ck.”
“Mine too,” I kicked my sandal off under the table.
“What do you want to do tonight?” he asked, munching his burger.
“Something exciting,” I laughed, sliding my foot up Tay’s pant leg, like they always do on TV. Tay smiled but nodded his head toward Dave.
Meanwhile, Dave was laughing, “Yea right, let’s get naked…”
“Let’s.”
Tay started blushing and leaned down to try to push my foot off him. He couldn’t do it without looking to conspicuous.
“Let’s go skinny dipping,” I suggested, smirking evilly.
“What’s up with you?” Dave laughed
I ate a French fry in probably the mist sexual manner ever as I continued to stroke Tay’s leg with my foot. He tried to give me signals to stop, but he was smiling too much to do so.
“Oscar wants us to come over to practice,” Dave said as he pulled out his wallet to pay. Tay was finally able to get rid of my foot when he also got up to get his wallet.
“We can go there,” I shrugged. Neither guy was really paying attention to me. They were staring at each other, both with little wads of money in their hands.
“I’ll pay,” Taylor said, putting his money down on the table.
“I’ll pay for Tayler and I,” Dave shook his head, moving over Tay’s money.
“No, really, I got it,” Tay shoved back.
“Why don’t we all split it?” I said, sifting through my bookbag for my wallet.
“I’ll pay for you,” Tay took his hand off his pile of money.
“No, I’ll get it,” Dave handed Tay his money.
“Jesus, just split it,” I rolled my eyes.
“Why don’t you have a shoe on?” Dave raised an eyebrow.
It was cold out by the time we were done practicing. Dave asked me if I wanted him to come with me, but I said it wasn’t necessary. I went in the front door and waited for his car to pull away. Then, I sneaked back out and cut through the woods. I could hear music coming from the garage.
I crept around the side of the house until I was just in front of the garage. Peering through the windows, I saw Ike, Tay, and Zac sitting in the back with their respective instruments. I hid so that they couldn’t see me.
I stood there a while, listening to them alternate between fighting and playing. Finally, I decided it was time. I waited in the window. I signaled. Tay saw me and nodded subtly.
“I’m tired of this,” he sighed, and left the garage. As he left, his brothers didn’t seem to have much of a problem with that. I watched Ike pick back up his guitar and continue to strum.
There were warm hands on my waist, “Come on,” he said, and pulled me out of the light of the window. “Are you okay?” he whispered, barely audible.
“Yes.”
“I thought something may have happened, you know…”
“Something did happen,” I almost burst into tears. A few lone ones trickled. It was too dark for him to see.
“What?” I could feel his breath on my cheek.
I didn’t speak.
“What? Are you okay?” His arms were still around my waist, holding me up. “Robinson? What happened?”
I had no choice. I wrapped my arms around his neck and pulled him close to me, forcing our mouths on top of each other.
