Help for Newbies

Step one read the FAQs on Vampire Wars Site
Step two RE-READ the FAQ's on Vampire Wars Site
OK now that we have established that you really need to read the FAQ's we'll move on.

Start the mud and type commands. This will give you list of the commands that are available to you.
Type prac. This is a list of all the spells and skills you can learn.
We will get to practicing spells and such later

You want to start out in the newbie zone for experience points first. To get there type recall. This takes you to the executioner. It will take you there every time you type recall. Then type 'say take me home'. This takes you to the newbie zone.

Read the room descriptions. You will need the Newbie handbook. There are instructions on how to do this in the room description.

One you have gotten some experience from killing the dinosaurs, you will need to practice a spell. The first spell you need to prac is soulblade. This is done by typing over and over again "prac soulblade". This will be your major weapon for a while. Once the mud says you are adept at the spell soulblade, you need to cast it. Type c blade. A soulblade will appear in your hands. Type wear blade. Do this twice so that you have 2 soulblades. Walk around the newbie zone and bash every mob you come to. You will be spending a lot of time here so you might want to map it on a piece of graph paper.

Once you have five thousand (5k) exp you might want to claim one of your blades. To do this type remove blade. Then type claim blade. Now whenever you die all you have to do to get your blade back is type call all. You can do this with all your eq (eq = equipment) , But I would save it for only eq that is either hard to come by or you are sick of getting over and over again.

Type eq to see what you are wearing. You can get eq from the corpses of the things you slay. Type get "item" corpse. Get all corpse works as well if you want everything from a corpse.

Type "I" to see what eq you are carrying but not wearing.

Next is stance training. You might as well start while you are young. Type basic, this is a list of the basic stances you need to start with. Every time you go to kill a mob (mobile) you need to type stance "name". "name" = the stance you are still training. Type basic again to see how far along you are in the training of the stance.

Here is a list of spells that you will need to train after you practice soulblade:

  1. heal: this one is obvious I think.
  2. clot: when you lose a body part you will need to clot the wound to stop the bleeding.
  3. mend: you need this for when your bones get broken.
  4. regenerate (regen): you will need those for when you lose body parts, you can pick up the part and stick it back on, the syntax for this is 'c regen "name".
  5. stone skin (stone): this lowers your AC (armor class,,,lower is better) by -40.
  6. armor: again lowers you AC by another -20.\
  7. shield: again lowers your AC by another -20.
  8. bless: This spell improves the hit roll and saving throw.
  9. darkblessing(dark): this spells improves your hitroll and damroll
  10. sanctuary: halves damage done to you
  11. Protection (prot): reduces the damage done to you by an evil creature by 1/4
  12. gas breath(gas): this is helpful for bashing. When you cast gas it attacks every NPC(Non Player Character) in the room. Having many mobs attack you at once saves you from having to type kill over and over again
  13. faerie fire(fae): increases the AC of a target(remember high is bad when concerning AC)
  14. infravision (infra): lets you see in dark.

That will get you started in spells. There are many more that you will need to learn but that is a start.

I hopes this helps you in some way.

Help for newbies on Vampire Wars:

1. http://bb13.betterbox.net/~joker -- on this page, there is lots of information that should be useful to you.

2. If you are a mortal, it is recommended that you get the black shimmmering eq and align evil. If you find any reasonably nice player, he/she might retrieve you some nice parchments to enchant a soul potion that they give you.

3. Also bug someone about getting you some eq with shields on it, like fire, ice, or lightning.

4. If you are an avatar, the silvery eq carried by the grand knight of paladins is recommended, align good in this case, before training avatar.

5. Claim your eq. it costs 5000 experience points per piece, which may seem costly, but it is well worth it, when you die, 'cause sometimes you will not be able to find/remember where your corpse was , to manually retrieve eq, besides the fact that some newbie might come along to take it.

6. ALWAYS spellproof your equipment. To do this, just "cast spellproof (item}". Spellproofing your equipment, makes it invincible to destruction via offensive spells, which can really wreck your equipment. I have beforetime lost a fully quested piece of equipment, just because I neglected to make sure that it is spellproof. And, no, it is not the duty of the immortal creating a piece of eq for you to spellproof your equipment. If the immortal chooses to do this for you, fine. It is your equipment, and you should always check.

NOTE: spell-proofing your equipment will NOT make it indestructible, but making your eq indestructible WILL make it spellproof. You would have to reach adventurer status, and quest indestruct on your eq, if you want it indestructible.

7. Do not bug old, high-level players for stuff, it will only make you suffer a hard time coming up on the mud.

8. Do not cheat, or bug abuse, or age bot, or hunt in groups, a bad reputation can be your own worst enemy.

9. Look around this web site, there are more helpful pages to browse.
