The Gorrie Family, circa 1911
I have traced my Gorrie family roots back to Scotland where they originated in the Course Of Gowrie. In the early 1900's my Great Grandfather Henry Charles Gorrie came to Canada with his four brothers, two sisters and Mother Mary Gorrie (nee Collins). Father John Gorrie was left in Scotland where he is probably still drinking and playing the piano not knowing the family has left. They landed on the west coast of British Columbia, Canada and made their way to the East Kootenays where they continued to work as miners. The first Gorrie Homestead in Canada was in Grasmere, near the border to Montana, U.S.A. There are still many Gorrie Decendants in this are including the Lancasters, Cooks, Holmes, Slees, Charlesworths and many more.
