Bengali settlers killed a Ponemala Tripura at Sindukchari of Mahalchari

On the night between 3-4 September 2009, Muslim settlers killed Ponemala Tripura (50,) wife of Bhibishan Tripura at Sindukchari under Mahalchari. The villagers recovered her dead body from their jum farm in the morning of 4 September. Four Muslim settlers were suspected of involvement in the killing.

This year Ponemala Tripura and her husband Bhibishan Tripura have cultivated two jum farms. Both Husband and wife stayed night separately at 2 jum farms to protect crops from wild animals. On that day at dawn Mr. Bhibishan Tripura called her, but he did not receive any response from his wife (Ponemala) and went to the jum farm where she was staying. But he did not find her there. Bhibishan suspected that something was wrong. He informed it to the local Tripura community people and they started searching nearby jungle of jum farms and at last they found her dead body about a kilometer away from her jum farm.

It is widely believed that she was kidnapped from her jum farm and murdered at the night of 3-4 September 2009. The jum farm is about two kilometers away from the local Tripura village. She had land dispute with following Muslim settlers-

  3. Rustam Ali of Sindukchari
  4. Noab Ali, son of late Afsar Gazi of Sindukchari

The Muslim settlers went there several times to grab Ponemala.Tripura's land
