Thanchi Karbaries

On 18 September 2011 Capt. Rashed of Baro Modak BGB (Border Guard Bangladesh) camp inhumanly tortured 2 Karbaries (indigenous village heads) of Baro Modak area of Thanchi in Bandarban. On that day camp commander Capt. Rashed called a public meeting with the Karbaries of nearby villages at the camp. At a stage of the meeting Capt. Rashed became agitated and started to beat Mr. Bathowai Aung Marma (50) and Khyai Sathui Marma (45). He fastened their hands and beat them with sticks.

On 21 January 2006 Major Abdul Awal of Nakkhyangchari BDR camp of 40 Battalion summoned 2 indigenous people to the camp and took video recording with arms. In the video recording, the 2 indigenous men were treated as 'tribal miscreants' and 2 Bengali Muslims as 'Rohingya miscreants'. For this acting as 'miscreants', the army gave them Taka 200 each. The victims were:

  1. Mr. Chailung Aung Marma (50) s/o late Mongkhyoiri Marma of Dhungri Headman Para of Douchari union under Nakkhyangchari sub-disctrict
  2. Mr. Mongcha Hla Marma of Dhungri Headman Para of Douchari union under Nakkhyangchari
  3. Mohamed Mukhtar Ahmad of Douchari union under Nakkhyangchari
  4. Mohamed Jafar of Douchari union under Nakkhyangchari
