Ramu Temple

On 29-30 September 2012 Muslim extremists attacked the Buddhist community in Ramu, Ukhia, Teknaf and Cox’s Bazaar municipality area under Cox’s Bazaar district and Patia in Chittagong district. It was in retaliation of a Facebook posting defaming the Quran allegedly by a Facebook user Uttam Barua. In this attack at least a dozen Buddhist temples were destroyed and around 200-250 Buddhist homes were ransacked and robbed. Besides 2 Hindu temples were vandalised in Patia.

Bangladesh army severely beat 3 indigenous Chakma Buddhists at Manikchari

On 25 February 2000 Bangladesh army severely beat a PCJSS member Mr. Aleya Chakma, a shopkeeper Mr. Sadhan Muni Chakma (45) and a farmer Mr. Surengya Chakma (32) at Battala, Manikchari in Khagrachari.

That day Aleya Chakma went to Sadhan Muni's shop for shopping. When he was chatting with Sadhan Muni Chakma at the shop, a group of Bangladesh army reached there and asked about Maya Bhushan Chakma. Maya Bhushan Chakma was a "wanted" man. He was falsely accused of illegal toll collection. When Aleya Chakma and Sadhan Muni Chakma replied negative, the army started to beat them. At that time, Surengya Chakma was working at his farm near the shop, he was also caught and inhumanly tortured by the army. Aleya Chakma was taken to the camp and tortured.

Capt. Shakib severely tortured Aleya Chakma at Bangladesh army camp of Manikchari zone. After seriously torturing him in the army camp, Capt. Shakib tried to hand him over to the Manikchari police station. But the police station refused to accept him as he was innocent. As a result, the army left him on roadside with serious injuries. Aleya Chakma was admitted to Manikchari hospital. The army went to hospital and threatened Aleya Chakma not to inform any news paper journalist else he would face severe consequences.
