Bangladesh army backed Mog Party terrorize indigenous people in BandarbanOn 15 May 2025, armed members of the Bangladesh army backed Mog Party were seen patrolling in broad daylight in Kuhalong and Rajvila areas of Bandarban on Mahindra vehicles and motorcycles. The activities of the Mog Party cadres have created panic among the indigenous people. A Muslim settler named Jahangir, the president of Bangalhalia Bazar Samiti of Rajasthali, Rangamati district was seen frequenting the Dolupara Army Camp in Kuhalong Union of Bandarban. Jahangir, the leader of the Awami League in Rajasthali is known to be a patron of the Mog Party. It is also known that this Jahangir works as an intermediary between the Bangladesh army and the Mog Party. A source said that, the members of the government’s intelligence department in Bandarban expressed fears that the activities of the Parbatya Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti (PCJSS) are being strengthened in Bandarban. As a result, it is believed that Bangladesh army increased the activities of the Mog Party in Bandarban to counter the PCJSS. On 5 May 2025, the Mog Party abducted a Marma labourer named Uthowai Marma (55) working on Udalbonia Ramatia Road. The Mog Party released him after interrogation and intimidation. Three days later on May 8, a group of 12 Mog Party men was seen patrolling Rajvila in Bandarban Sadar Upazila. Locals alleged that the armed cadres of the Mog Party were roaming openly even during the Bangladesh army operation because they had the support and instructions of the Bangladesh army. On August 5, 2024, after the fall of the Awami League government, the local Jumma and Bengali mob destroyed the armed hideout of the Mog Party in the Bangal Halia area of Rajasthali. After that, the members of the Mog Party fled with their weapons after being chased by the mob. Some of them took shelter in the Bangal Halia army camp and some members fled towards the Dongnala area. Although there was a peace for few days, the Mog Party abducted Adomong Marma, the chairman of the Bangal Halia Union Parishad. The Mog Party demanded ransom money and released Adomang Marma after receiving BD Taka 7,000,000. So far, many businessmen and ordinary people have been victims of their terror, including the killing of Buddhist monks, members and supporters of the PCJSS. Local people allege that they have been subjected to torture when they oppose the many wrongdoings of the Mog Party and file complaints with the military and civil administration. There have been long-standing allegations that the Mog Party was organized by the then Awami League leader Bir Bahadur (MP) of Bandarban, Kwashwehla Marma, Chairman of Bandarban Hill District Council and Dipankar Talukder MP of Rangamati and Aungsweprue Chowdhury, Chairman of Rangamati Hill District Council. The Mog Party has been carrying out various terrorist activities including extortion, killing and threatening Jana Samhati Samiti members with the support of the Bangladesh army.
