On 5 May 2025, Muslim settlers raped and murdered an indigenous woman named Chingma Khiang (29) at Mongkhoy Para in Thanchi, Bandarban district. Mrs. Chingma Khiang is the wife of Suman Khiang of Mongkhoy Para village and the mother of three children. The brutal incident took place in the forest adjacent to Mongkhoy Para.

Chingma Khiang went to work to the farm near their village at around 7 a.m. as usual. When she did not return home even though it was already afternoon, her family and villagers became worried and went out to search for Chingma Khiang. At that time, they saw signs of something being dragged in the farm. After following the signs, Chingma Khiang’s body was found at around 3 p.m.

Locals believe that Chingma Khiang was raped and then killed. The body was reportedly found with injury marks, eyes gouged out, and covered in blood.

According to family sources, Chingma Khiang went to work in their farm previous day (May 4). At that time, she saw 3 Muslim road construction workers on the way. Chingma Khiang returned home early yesterday after being scared by the workers’ looks and expressions. It is reported that she informed her family about the matter. Locals suspect that those Muslim road workers committed the crime.

Tindu Union Parishad Chairman Bhagyachandra Tripura said that the incident site is very remote and has no network. Upon receiving the news, he informed the police and said that he left for the spot with them.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Jinia Chakma said that a police team is going there after receiving information that a woman’s body was found in the area, about 38 kilometers away from Thanchi Upazila headquarters.
