On 19-20 February 2010; Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers attacked the indigenous Buddhist people at Baghaichari. The settlers destroyed many indigenous houses and Buddhist temples. The aim of the attack was to drive out the indigenous Chakma Buddhists and grab their land. Indigenous Chakma boys in grief after the attack.

Border Guard Bangladesh harass indigenous people in Barkal

Hill Voice, 14 February 2020, Barkal, Rangamati: On 14 February 2020, a group of 10 to 12 Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) soldiers from Jagannathchara BGB camp searched 4 indigenous houses in Barkal, Rangamati district. The house of Lakkhiraj Chakma, President of Aimachara Union Council Branch Juba Samiti was included in the search.

During the search, the BGB entered Lakkhiraj Chakma’s house by breaking the door and abused the members of his family with filthy language. Lakkhiraj Chakma was not present during the search. BGB members abused and harassed Lakkhiraj Chakma’s wife, mother and children.
