On 3 April 2006, Bangladesh army and Muslim settlers attacked indigenous Buddhist people in Mahalchari of Khagrachari. Bangladesh army and Muslim settlers gang raped Ms. Krajaima Marma (20) daughter of Chaihla Prue Marma at Saprue Karbaripara.

Bengali settlers attempt to rape 2 indigenous Buddhist girls in Panchari

On 18 January 1996, 2 Muslim settlers attempted to rape Miss. Rupika Chakma (16) daughter of Mr. Alichan Chakma and Miss. Shukramita Chakma (14) daughter of Mr. Mohini Ranjan Chakma of Kalanal village in Panchari, Khagrachari district. The indigenous girls resisted the attack with all their might and cried out loudly for help. Having heard their distressful scream, the nearby indigenous people came to their help and rescued them from the hands of the Muslim settlers.

2 Muslim settlers were identified as Mohammad Mosaraf (22) son of Mohammad Karim and Mohammad Rafiq (16) son of Mohammad Abdul Gafur. Both men are members of Village Defence Party or VDP. Villaee Defence Party is a Muslim settler militia armed and trained by Bangladesh army.

After the incident, the commander of Kalanal Army Camp sent some Muslim settler leaders to the parents of the girls to pay them money to hush up the matter. But the parents refused to accept the bribe and demanded appropriate punishment for the culprits.

On 19 January 1996, the Panchari branch of the HSC (Hill Student Council) brought out a procession to demand the arrest and open trial of the 2 Muslim settlers.

Having failed to hush up the crime, the biased Police took 2 Muslim settlers to Khagrachari Jail just to pretend that actions were being taken against the latter. But nobody knows whether the culprits have been tried.
