On 19-20 February 2010; Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers attacked the indigenous Buddhist people at Baghaichari. The settlers destroyed many indigenous houses and Buddhist temples. The aim of the attack was to drive out the indigenous Chakma Buddhists and grab their land. A Buddhist monk surveys his gutted temple.
Bangladesh forcibly convert an indigenous family to Islam in Kaukhali
On 17 Nov. 1991, Bangladesh army of 5 East Bengal Regiment from Kaukhali sub-district led by Leut. Col. Delawar Hossain forced an indigenous family to convert to Islam at the court in Kaukhali, Rangamati district. Magistrate Mr. Siddique Rahman gave the members of the said family Islamic names as shown below:
Mr. Manoram Chakma (69), son of Mr. Begenapeda Chakma of Ugol Chari village in No. 97 Mubachari Mouza, Kaukhali. His Islamic name Mohammad Abdul Rahim.
Mrs. Mangal Mukhi Chakma (60), wife of Mr. Manoram Chakma. Her Islamic name Saira Begum.
Mr. Nishi Kumar Chakma (35), son of Mr. Manoram Chakma. His Islamic name Mohammad Abdul Malek.
Mr. Sishu Kumar Chakma (32), son of Mr. Manoram Chakma; his Islamic name Mohammad Abdul Khaleque.
Mrs. Suryadevi Chakma (27), wife of Mr. Sishu Kumar Chakma; her Islamic name Noorjahan.
