On 19 December 1986, Bangladesh army men gang raped Vira Rani Chakma (16) of Nuaram Karbari Para, Dighinala. About 20 Bangladesh army personnel from the Viswa Ram Karbari Para army camp of Dighinala raided the indigenous Chakma village of Nuaram Karbari Para in the morning. All the male inhabitants of the village were taken by force to cut the jungle surrounding the army camp. Bangladesh army encircled the village at 11:00 a.m. and on the pretext of searching entered the houses. All the women and the girls who were in their houses, were stripped by the soldiers and were gang raped. Even the minors were not spared.

Bangladesh army rape 14 indigenous Buddhist girls and torture 10 youths in Rangamati

On 19 0ctober 1990, Bangladesh army personnel of the 21 East Bengal Regiment under the 65 Infantry Brigade raped gang raped 14 indigenous Buddhist girls and tortured 10 indigenous Buddhist youths at Bilaichari village Jhagarabeel Mouza in Rangamati district.

14 indigenous girls, 2 indigenous women and 10 indigenous youths were returning home by boat after attending a Buddhist religious ceremony Kathin Chibar Dana at Raj Bana Vihar Buddhist temple in Rangamati. At about 4 p.m. the Bangladesh Army personnel of the 21 East Bengal Regiment under the 65 Infantry Brigade stopped them at Bilaichari village in No. 104 Jhagarabeel Mouza and forced them to disembark from the boat. Then Banladesh army gang raped the girls and tortured the boys till 10 p.m.

On 20 October 1990, the victims asked the Government of Bangladesh to bring the culprits to book but no action was taken to punish the Bangladesh army rapists. The Banladesh army rapists were under the command of Maj. Gen. Mahmudul Hasan, the GOC of the Chittagong Division of the Bangladesh Army.

5 of the victims were:

  1. Miss Binata Tangchangya, the daughter of Mr. Sudarshan Tangchangya
  2. Miss Chintarani Tangchangya, the daughter of Mr. Jiban Kumar Tangchangya
  3. Miss Kalabi Tangchangya, the daughter of Mr. Karna Tangchangya
  4. Miss Kalkoi Tangchangya, the daughter of the late Krishna Kumar Tangchangya
  5. Miss Chintoi Tangchangya, the daughter of Mr. Laxmi Kumar Tangchangya

All the indigenous victims were from No. 108 Manikchari Mouza within the Rangamati sub-district.
