On 22 September 2012 Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers attacked indigenous Buddhist people in Rangamati. When the indigenous people counter attacked in self defence Bangladesh army took side with the Muslim settlers. 76 indigenous people were injured and numerous indigenous properties were destroyed.

Bangladesh army torture indigenous people in Panchari
On 7 July 1986, a group of 23 soldiers belonging to 19th EBR from the army camp at Nalkaba, raided the Chakma village Kuradia Chara, P.S. Panchari. The army tortured and severely beat the following persons:
Sudipto Chakma, 22 yrs, son of Binodbal Chakma, of Kuradia Chara, P.S. Panchari, was hung upside down and had water forced into his mouth and nose.
Binodbal Chakma, 47 yrs, son of Gyanendra Chakma, address as above, was kicked to the ground and beaten with bamboos.
Gacchyo Chakma, 35 yrs, son of Kiran Chandra Chakma, of North Nalkaba, P.S. Panchari, was severely beaten with an wooden block.
Dev Ranjan Chakma, 23 yrs, son of Indu Kumar Chakma, of Kuradia Chara, P.S. as above, was beaten and inhumanly tortured.
