On 19-20 February 2010; Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers attacked the indigenous people at Baghaichari leaving an indigenous man dead. The aim of the attack was to drive out the indigenous Chakma Buddhists and grab their land. The indigenous Buddhist man gunned down by the Bangladesh army.

Bangladesh army torture indigenous Chakma Buddhists in Baghaichari

On 5 May 1985, Bangladesh Army of 7th Bengal from Karengatali Camp led by Captain John launched a military operation at Balu Khali in Baghaichari, Rangamati district. During the operation, Bangladesh army beat and tortured the indigenous people in order to uproot them from their homesteads. The victims are:

  1. Mano Ranjan Chakma (50), son of Lalit Muni Chakma of Balu Khali, Baghaichari. Bangladesh army beat with wooden sticks for helping the Shanti Bahini.
  2. Harish Chandra Chakma (15), son of Lorbua Chakma of being a Shanti Bahini. Bangladesh army tied and hung him from a tree upside doun, beat and poured water through his nose and mouth till he became senseless. All his house hold properties were destroyed.
  3. Khuku Moni Chakma (26), son of Bharat Kumar Chakma of Balu Khali, Baghaichari. Bangladesh army accused him of supplying rations to Shanti Bahini. He was beaten with sticks and had water poured through his nose and mouth till he became senseless.
  4. Kamala Kanti Chakma (16), son of Amrita Lal Chakma of Balu Khali, Baghaichari. Bangladesh army falsely accused him of supplying information to the Shanti Bahini. Bangladesh army mercilessly beat and tortured him.
  5. Fora Khula Chakma (14), son of Amrita Lal Chakma of Balu Khali, Baghaichari. Bangladesh army beat and toruted him as above.
  6. Gopa Nanda Chakma (15), son of Khona Chakma of Balu Khali, Baghaichari. Bangladesh army falsely accused him of collecting information for the Shanti Bahini and mercilessly beat and tortured him.
  7. Lakshmi Chakma (37) of Sarbua Tali, Baghaichari. Bangladesh army arrested him at Karengatali Bazar(market). Bangladesh army beat him and took him into custody on a false pretext of shopping for the Shanti Bahini.
