On 19-20 February 2010; Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers attacked the indigenous people at Baghaichari leaving an indigenous man dead. The aim of the attack was to drive out the indigenous Chakma Buddhists and grab their land. The indigenous Buddhist man gunned down by the Bangladesh army.

Bangladesh army massacre indigenous Chakma Buddhists in Zurochari

On 20 September 1984, Bangladesh army of 305th Brigade, Bangladesh Rifles (BDR), Armed Police of Bangladesh (APB), the Ansars (Islamic Guards) and the Muslim settlers attacked several indigenous Buddhist villages in Zurochari, Rangamati district. The Bangladeshi armed forces and Muslim settlers launched the attack to seize indigenous land for the Muslim settlers.

During the attack the Bangladeshi soldiers and Muslim settlers robbed and burnt down the indigenous Buddhist villages, evicted the indigenous people, destroyed crops and live stocks, raped indigenous women, murdered many indigenous people. Many indigenous people fled to India and surrounding forests. The victims are:

Killed

  1. Miss Phoola Rani Chakma (17), daughter of Mr. Kala Chan Chakma of Barkalak in Zurochari. She had her hands and legs tied up, was raped in front of her parents, brothers and sisters, and was shot dead with a sub-machine-gun.
  2. Miss Nazoni Chakma (20), daughter of Mr. Jitendra Chakma of Barkalak in Zurochari. She was forcibly taken away from her parents, raped and shot dead with a sub-machine-gun.
  3. Mrs. Jhorbi Chakma (30), wife of Mr. Babonya Chakma of Barkalak in Zurochari. She was raped in front of her husband and children, and killed with bayonet charges.
  4. Miss Kandori Chakma (16), daughter of Mr. Tango Chakma of Hotyal Chara in Zurochari. She was raped and killed with bayonet charges through the private parts of her body.
  5. Miss Gulchogi Chakma (22), daughter of Mr. Tango Chakma of Hotyal Chara in Zurochari. She was robbed of her gold necklace, raped and killed with bayonet charges through the private parts of her body.
  6. Miss Nagori Chakma (16), daughter of Mr. Surya Sen Chakma of Harinhat Chara in Zurochari. She was raped and strangled to death.
  7. Miss Bodachogi Chakma (17), daughter of Mr. Hriday Chakma of Sivrampara in Zurochari. She was raped and shot dead with a sub-machine-gun.
  8. Miss Nakkobi Chakma (l6), daughter of Mr. Juboraj Chakma of Sivrampara in Zurochari. She had her hands and legs held tight by invaders, was raped and killed with bayonet charges through the bleeding private parts of her body.

Robbery and Arson

  1. Mr. Prabhat Kumar Chakma (40) of Gabachari in Zurochari. Bangladeshi soldiers and settlers set his house on fire burning all his properties including 3 quintals of paddy.
  2. Mr. Partitorja Chakma (46) of Gabachari in Zurochari. Bangladeshi soldiers and settlers severely beat him, burned his house destroying valuable belongings and 4 quintals of paddy.
  3. Mr. Prem Kisto Chakma (53) of Gabachari in Zurochari. BD soldiers and settlers attacked set his house ablaze destroying his valuables and 6 quintals of paddy.
  4. Mr. Adei Dhon Chakma (47) of Gabachari in Zurochari. BD soldiers and settlers set his house alight burning all properties and 20 quintals of paddy, and took away 12 heads of cattle.
  5. Mr. Sudhanko Chakma (44) of Gabachari in Zurochari. BD soldiers and settlers set his house on fire burning his 10 quintals of paddy.
  6. Mr. Kalabua Chakma (52) of Gabachari in Zurochari. BD soldiers and settlers burnt his house and 12 quintals of paddy.
  7. Mr. Soya Chakma (58) of Gabachari in Zurochari. BD soldiers and settlers set his house ablaze destroying 11 quintals of paddy.
  8. Mr. Devamoni Chakma (50) of Gabachari in Zurochari. BD soldiers and settlers set his house on fire burning 15 quintals of paddy.
  9. Mr. Sabidhon Chakma (46) of Gabachari in Zurochari. BD soldiers and settlers robbed his household properties and took away 10 quintals of paddy.
  10. Mr. Robidhon Chakma (43) of Gabachari in Zurochari. BD soldiers and settlers robbed his valuables including 5 quintals of paddy.
  11. Mr. Lamba Chakma (54) of Gabachari in Zurochari. BD soldiers and settlers took away the properties and 5 quintals of paddy from from house.
  12. Mr. Kutteya Chakma (49) of Gabachari in Zurochari. BD soldiers and settlers burnt his house and 50 quintals of paddy.
  13. Mr. Ramoni Chakma (36) of Gabachari in Zurochari. BD soldiers and settlers set his house on fire destroying 15 quintals of paddy.
  14. Mr. Dibormuni Chakma (40) of Gabachari in Zurochari. BD soldiers and settlers robbed valuables and 30 quintals of paddy.
  15. Mr. Indra Mohan Chakma (43) of Gabachari in Zurochari. BD soldiers and settlers raided the house of and set his house on fire burning every valuable thing and 5 quintals of paddy.
  16. Mr. Budhi Chakma (39) of Gabachari in Zurochari. BD soldiers and settlers burned his house destroying all belongings and 12 quintals of paddy.
  17. Mr. Kalachan Chakma (45) of Gabachari in Zurochari. BD soldiers and settlers set his house alight burning 20 quintals of paddy and took away 12 heads of cattle.
  18. Mr. Germany Chakma (38) of Gabachari in Zurochari. BD soldiers and settlers set his house on fire burning his properties and destroying 7 quintals of paddy.
  19. Mr. Bhadra Sen Chakma (42) of Gabachari in Zurochari. BD soldiers and settlers raped his wife and burned his house destroying 5 quintals of paddy.
  20. Mr. Monya Chakma (45) of Gabachari in Zurochari. BD soldiers and settlers burned down his house destroying all his properties and 15 quintals of paddy.
  21. Mr. Jangey Chakma (51) of Gabachari in Zurochari. BD soldiers and settlers took away 10 quintals of paddy, goats and several heads of cattle.
  22. Mr. Chakya Chakma (37) of Gabachari in Zurochari. BD soldiers and settlers robbed 15 quintals of paddy, clothings and utensils.
  23. Mr. Tokya Chakma (43) of Gabachari in Zurochari. BD soldiers and settlers stole 15 quintals of paddy, clothings and utensils.
  24. Mr. Cham Kala Chakma (49) of Gabachari in Zurochari. BD soldiers and settlers set his house on fire burning 17 quintals of paddy.
  25. Mr. Juranya Chakma (54) of Gabachari in Zurochari. BD soldiers and settlers set his house on fire destroying 15 quintals of paddy.
  26. Mr. Eklakka Chakma (41) of Gabachari in Zurochari. BD soldiers and settlers set his house alight burning 10 quintals of paddy.
  27. Mr. Kamala Kanta Chakma (38) of Gabachari in Zurochari. BD soldiers and settlers robbed household properties and 15 quintals of paddy.
  28. Mr. Surya Sen Chakma (55) of Gabachari in Zurochari. BD soldiers and settlers attacked robbed his valuables and 40 quintals of paddy.
  29. Mr. Bira Chakma (46) of Gabachari in Zurochari. BD soldiers and settlers robbed 20 quintals of paddy and fowls.
  30. Mr. Narod Moni Chakma (41) of Gabachari in Zurochari. BD soldiers and settlers set his house on fire burning 30 quintals of paddy.
  31. Mr. Sureswar Chakma (37) of Gabachari in Zurochari. BD soldiers and settlers burned down his house destroying 5 quintals of paddy.
  32. Mr. Lorbua Chakma (50) of Gabachari in Zurochari. BD soldiers and settlers burnt down the house and 10 quintals of paddy.
  33. Mr. Subhash Basu Chakma (42) of Gabachari in Zurochari. BD soldiers and settlers set his house on fire burning 30 quintals of paddy and 60 kilograms of rice.
  34. Mr. Aswini Chakma (48) of Gabachari in Zurochari. BD soldiers and settlers burned down his house destroying 37 quintals of paddy and 80 kilograms of rice.
