Poetry -Chapter Three One Flame, Two Fires

Staring at a candle
one flame - two fires
Closing my eyes, I can still see the glow
that had been burned into my retina
Opening my eyes and staring at the flame
I see that it flickers, dances with the air
a tango with two partners, only one that is visible
Closing my eyes, I now see two flames
burning from a single fire
I open my eyes, then close them until
a chorus of flames appear under my eye lid
one fire - many flames
A friendly game of hide and seek
where the fire keeps leaving hints of where I can find him
The candle cries at the beautiful
dance that she is able to be a part of.
The tears gather at the base,
leaving a trail along side her body
some, stopping midway and gathering there
Growing in age, shrinking in size
I touch the wax near the flame
It coats my finger,
providing a soft cap that feels like a slipper when I touch my cheek
I examine the cap after I pull it off
It looks like my skin,
only purer and more delicate
It melts once it becomes the flame's mistress
It is late now and I feel it is time to quietly blow out the flame
I exhale softly enough to watch the flame wave good bye
The wick is still red
I breathe on it and watch the ember inhale my life
silently signaling that the dance is still alive.
