Impressions of a Girl: Poetry Café

It's a 'How do you do?'

She knows the game and she plays it well
there's a strategy that she learned
from losing to different players.

Move forward to the present and it has commenced
She wants to win but her mind is unfocused
She can not finish anything she has started
because it does not fit and it is too noisy
the next step has become a myth.

Laying in bed, listening to women she will never meet
is just more of the same
over and over
Ready to move on and figure out the challenge,
scared to make a move or is it fear that one will be done on her?

If she is really moving than it might be backwards
because she left her heart at Mount Fuji
and all the in betweens do not make sense
and all this wavering back and forth
ends in a long distant phone call that leaves her feeling lonely
(or was that a Clash song?)

She wonders about the impression she leaves
or if is it an imprint that makes them flinch or cackle.

It is a last good bye, it is a how do you do?
Giving up your seat on the train because she's tired
and has been walking through Shibuya all morning
looking for LP's she will never put on a turn table

She used to dream of being a rock star
And still dreams about the audience
full of admirers, whose hearts she wants to break
because they all had their chance already
or perhaps she wants to entice them
like the women in Leonard Cohen's poetry
or the unravished bride in Keat's Ode to a Grecian Urn
Three pounds gained and some of it knowledge
Too many stories, too many poems, too few books
And some tan lines to be read by a blind man's hand.
