The president of the United Arab Emirates, HH Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, has led the seven member federation since it was established in 1971, and has been Ruler of the largest Emirate, Abu Dhabi, since 1966. He has led both through a programme of change so rapid that it has few parallels, even in this era of Arabia's Oil-fuelled development. |

visible even to expatriates who have spent but a few years in the country
; while photographs from 30 years a go show that, in the cities at
least, Abu Dhabi and the uae are virtually brand new.
For Sheikh Zayed and his compatriots, it has been a veritable revolution. |
