Earthmass

The cathedral is crammed full of people
the size of Madison Square Gardens, they say
but Madison Square Gardens wasn’t built of rock.
There are hundreds of people
and their hundreds of noisy pets
They have all come to celebrate.
I have the best view
from the choir, I can see everything
I see the dancers in the aisles
I see the gathered
And the Altar
and the dark recesses in the ceiling
Places where no light dares enter.
I watch the incense waft to these places
Through the air, in swirling patterns
Then we sing and the world is full of music
and we are one instrument, giving God praise
And we are one people
And the spirit is among us
Then the creatures begin to enter
Even the elephant looks small
In this building,sea of people
And we bless them
And they bless us
And we go forth in Jubilation
singing.
