Transformers
After a summer where I haven't seen very many movies, I have finally seen one worth a glowing review. Based on the Hasbro toys, the 80s cartoon, and the Japanese phenomenon, Transformers brings one of my favorite treats from childhood to life. The story is simple, a boy buys a car, or, a car picks a boy, and that car turns out to be a robot in disguise. The boy, who is a descendant of a man who discovered a frozen robot, gets caught up woth several other robots looking for a massive cube of pure power. On the other hand, evil robots, looking for their frozen leader and the cube, are destroying military bases and the very information network the government works on. This all leads to a wicked good showdown between good evil, and the humans in between.
This film was the most entertaining action flick I've seen in a long time. It didn't let up, from minute one. The cast included Shia LaBeouf as Sam, the main character. He hooks up with Bumblebee, and does a very good job of attracting Mikela, played by Megan Fox. The way-too-hot-to-be-in-high-school Megan Fox. Got, I had no idea she was going to look so hoooooot the whole movie. (drooooool) Sorry.
The other half of the movie, the US government/military side is anchored by Josh Duhamel, Tyreese Gibson, Jon Voigt, and John Turturro. They all do an adequate job acting human against huge CGI robots. Although, Turturro's character was very, very odd.
The other main element, of course, were the transformers themselves. They were so, frickin awesome. From Blackout attacking the military base in the beginning, to Bumblebee saving Sam's life, to Optimus Prime himself whoopin Megatron's ass. They included a few classic characters like Prime, Bumblebee, Ironhide, Ratchet, Jazz, Megatron, Starscream, and Barricade. They interacted beautifully with the people, with each other, and just looked exactly like you would expect them too. Mostly, this movie was exactly what someone of my generation would expect the Transformer's movie to be. Brilliant action, excellent special effects, and a lot of sentimental nostalgia for the 80s. And finally, Megan Fox is soooooo hot. I hope to see her in much more.... or less, as the case may be.
9 of 10. Go see it, its more than meets the eye.
