My Thoughts
System of a Down. They are probably the only Armenian born band to ever make it big in the United States. And rightly so. They're melodies are unique, switching tempos without warning, and the lyrics are usually inflammatory. They released their first album in 1998, and this is their fourth release. Now, I am most familiar with the tracks from Toxicity, their second album. tracks like "Aerials", "Toxicity", and the centerpiece, "Chop Suey!" were superb examples of unique and hard-driving music they were good at.
Mesmerize is the first of two albums System is planning to release this year. The second is called Hypnotize, and should be out in the fall. Most of this album is against the current war operations by the US government, and it also acts as a comment on how Hollywood just ain't the best place to be. And then there are some songs, like "Cigaro" that aren't about either, but about their genitalia. In all, it may take a few listens to get the hang of the album, but its all worth it. I'm actually looking forward to the second offering when it comes out. Its about a 4.
