My Thoughts
As most know, Audioslave is the coupling of Chris Cornell and the meat of Rage Against the Machine. Their last offering was one of the best albums I've come across in a long time, and it got a lot of play in my truck cd player. Its a minor miracle that this album even got made, since there were a lot of rumors saying there was a lot of tension after the first album.
So, naturally, I was psyched by the thought of a new album. And the first two singles, "Be Yourself" and "Your Time Has Come" made the wait even harder. They were slightly different, but still carried the same essence of the first album. For the most part, the album is an all right listen, although the edge seems to have been taken off. Its a little more melow, a little more refined, but the message hasn't changed, and neither has the overall groove. The funk and soul of Rage are there, and Cornell's lyrics are phenomenal. But, it just doesn't seem to resonate with me the same as the last one. But, that might be because I've only heard the album like five times through. Some albums take longer than others to make an impression on me. For now, however, it'll get a 3, but that could change.
And, once again, my opinion has changed on this one as well. Its a smooth-flowing album, mixing the sounds of old Rage, old Soundgarden, and new Audioslave into one. Its not the exact same thing as the first disc, but it still is a good listen. Its going up to a four.
