My Thoughts
In a world of sell-out punk, I'm glad that The Offspring is here. The only real Offspring album I've heard is Americana, probably their most popular album to date. Before that, I've heard they were dark and brooding, like so many of the bands that gained popularity in the 90s. Americana was kind of a sell-out album, I suppose, and so was their follow-up, Conspiracy of One. For some reason, this album feels more genuine than Americana, and is less likely to be featured in movie soundtracks and commercials. In a world full of Good Charlottes and Simple Plans, I'm glad that Offspring is different.
The one thing I can say for the music is that its short and to the point. Most of the 12 songs are about 2 or 2 and a half minutes long. But every song is entertaining and hard-hitting, getting right to the point very quickly. They've kept their offbeat sense of humor, which seemed to permeate Americana, which makes each song that much better. Its a slice, to be sure.
Its getting a 4, and its a very entertaining effort. Bravo.
