Plot
Peter, a bored, frustrated employee of Initech, goes to a hypnotist with his girlfriend in hopes of solving his lack of ambition. Instead, he gains a complete indifference of work and everything else. Instead of being fired, he gets promoted and still does whatever he wants. He gets a new girlfriend, and when his two best friends, Micheal and Samir, are about to be laid off, he takes control. The trio start stealing from the company, only fractions of pennies at a time. Something goes wrong, and Peter finally decides to take the responsibility and take the fall for the theft. However, that all becomes moot when another disgruntled employee, Milton, burns the place down.
My Thoughts
This is a great movie. I was one of the few people to see this movie in the theatre, and I loved it. I have never laughed so hard at a movie in my life. Mike Judge is a genious. I have this on VHS, and I'm surprised that its still playable. I've seen this one close to thirty or forty times. We used to watch it when we were drunk/hungover/bored, or when we had an extra hour and a half. There are so many quotable lines, and the performances by comedy veterans Gary Cole, David Herman, Deidrich Bader, Stephen Root, & John C. McGinley are so flawless.
This movie made close to no money in the theatre. That would be because Fox had no idea on how to market it. When it came out on video, word of mouth had spread, and it sold like crazy. It outsold Something About Mary, which was Fox's crown jewel of its video/DVD empire. Just go see this one. I'm sure someone you know has it. Its great.
And finally, after suffering with a bare-bones DVD version, the Powers That Be have released a 'Special Edition' DVD. With a retrospective from Mike Judge and deleted scenes, it makes this film even better. I haven't seen it in a while, but it still retains all its charm and wit. GO BUY IT NOW!
