My Thoughts
Okay, this is Live's sixth album, and when you first hear it, it sounds a lot like their second. It begins slowly, but picks up speed until its conclusion, a lot like Throwing Copper. Now, don't get me wrong, I thought Copper was one of the best albums of the 90s, and its one of my favorites of all time. I particularily enjoyed Birds of Prey, mostly because of its similarity to Copper. Most songs have a message, and some are particularily rockin.
Now, the bad news. Live has always been known as a spiritual band. They don't preach a particular faith, but they preach faith in general. It was evident in Copper, and is evident here in spades. It reeks of the American post-9/11 mindset that everything must be looked back upon and stock of life must be taken. There was no risks taken on this album. They reverted back to their previous glory because of the group reversion in the United States. That is the most annoying thing about this album. And can you say 'heavy-handed'? Listen to the last two tracks. They bash you over the head in that 9/11 outrage and touchy-feely aftermath. But they both are catchy.
It gets a 3 out of 5.
