Plot
This fairytale follows the adventures of Jack, a poor wood-folk who is the obsession of Princess Lily. They meet behind the backs and against the advice of her loved-ones, mostly because they're in love. One day, Jack shows Lily the two unicorns that inhabit the forest. Unbeknownst to them, however, are the following minions of the Lord of Darkness. They wish to seperate the unicorns and their horns.
They succeed in removing one, but the other escapes. The world pretty much goes crazy, and Jack is recruited to save the unicorn horn. Lily, in her panic, runs straight into the arms of Darkness. He makes her his bride, and the second unicorn is brought to the dark lord. However, the day is saved through the courageous actions of Jack and his friends. In the end, everything works out, and evil is pushed into the background.

My Thoughts
This is one of those strange visionary movies that appeal to me. I'm a big fan of Ridley Scott's early work, especially Alien, Blade Runner, and this film. It simply lets the visuals tell the story. Each scene is rich and textured, and each character is done so convincingly. It was one of those underrated films when it came out, much like Blade Runner before it.
The cast is picture perfect, even Tom Cruise in one of those roles that he took before he was huge, was excellent. And Tim Curry under so much prosthetics he was unrecognizable, was perfect. It was a film filled with wonder and magic, and an indellible visual style. One of those absolute gems.
