My Thoughts
As I have mentioned before, I am a fan of Evanescence, and since they hadn't released anything new since Fallen, I was looking for a similar sound to fill that void. I really like the soaring melodies mixed with powerful vocals plus hard guitars. Its a unique combination that just does it for me. Flyleaf kind of stepped in, but Lacuna Coil is another band that helps. They're an Italian band with a handful of records floating around out there. They gained North American exposure during 2003, right after they released the album Coma Lies. That album was excellent, using the same kind of soaring melodies and hard rock combination I like. The singing duties are split between the gothically hot Christina and the kind of creepy Andi. It makes for an interesting mix again, not knowing if a guy or girl is going to be singing.
With Karma Code, they have produced another listenable album, with a some upbeat numbers and some downers, but overall, it works. The highlight of the album has to be the cover of DePeche Mode's "Enjoy The Silnce", which is made chilling by Christina's vocals. She has got such a wicked cool voice, and she is smokin hot. Wow. It not nearly as infectious as Coma Lies, but Karma Code is a good disc. Worth a 3 of 5.
