My Thoughts
The second all new album from Seether should have been a powerful, angry album, one which moved the band into the upper echelon of rock bands. Their first, and re-released Disclaimer album was one of my favorites of recent years, and the duet lead vocalist Shaun Morgan did with Amy Lee last year, "Broken" proved that they had range. But, what I really wanted out of this album was more hard rock, slightly depressing songs.
The first single, "Remedy" appeared to be what I was wanting, but one of my friends mentioned that it sounded a lot like Nirvana's "I Hate Myself and I Want to Die". Still, I hoped the rest of the album sounded as hard-hitting. Well, I was a little dissapointed. Most of the album languishes in the doldrums of just depressing sounds. It doesn't move out of the slow-moving sounds that the Smashing Pumpkins made popular a decade ago. A little up-tempo or hard numbers would be nice, but they couldn't seem to get into those. Its a little dissapointing, but once again, maybe I need to listen to it more. We'll see. Its a 3.
After some time, the album has grown on me. It has some pretty sophisticated melodies, and then it has some straight-forward headbanging stuff. Its a prety good mix, but still a 3. A good three, not a dissapointing three.
