My Thoughts
Yeah, this is the third album from Fozzy, fronted by WWE wrestler Chris Jericho. Yes, I said WWE wrestler Chris Jericho. He is one of the most entertaining wrestlers working today, and believe it or not, he rocks out pretty hard. I wasn't sure what to expect from this album when I picked it up. Yes, they released albums in 200 and 2002, but I didn't buy or really hear anything from them. At the time, WWE was kind of not promoting wrestler's side projects. That changed over the last year. They began to kind of pimp out Fozzy as a finale to their live shows. They even used the single "Enemy" as the theme song to their February pay-per-view No Way Out.
I picked the disc up, thinking it might be a good distraction, but nothing more. Turns out, it rarely leaves my truck cd player. Right from the start, this album kicks your ass with hard-rockin, smart tracks. They get Zakk Wylde, frontman from Black Label Society and former Ozzy Ozbourne guitarist, to guest on "Wanderlust", the third track. Its a good track, but not the best on the disc. That comes with tracks 5 & 6. "The Test" picks up the tempo and kicks it hard. By the end, you think, 'Damn, this can't keep going', but it does. "It's a Lie" is the hardest rockin track I've heard all year, period. With Bonecrusher (I've never heard of him) guesting, it combines hard guitars, bangin drums with raps, and offsetting it all is Jericho's surprisingly smooth vocals.
All in all, the album starts slow, but keeps building till track 5 & 6, then slowly lets you down until the end of the album. Usually, after the album ends, I can't take it out. It seems to flow from start to end, and back to the start again. This album has kept me interested in music so far this year, and even though its only June, I'm willing to call this my favorite album of the year. Oh, yeah, and its getting a 6, yes a 6 out of 5. Eat that!
