It's All In Your Head

Artist: Eve 6
Producer: Gregg Wattenberg
Label: RCA

My Thoughts
This is the third attempt from Eve 6 at an album. They're first two were their self-titled debut in 1998 and Horrorscope from 2000. The first was a brilliant examination of teen angst (they were barely 18 when it came out) and the second was an evolution of the same people going through slightly different things. #3 continues that evolution of sound, although the topics are close to the same themes. Most deal with relationships, and the odd song maligning growing up.
This album has the basic same tempo through the entire thing, except for "Hey Montana", which I'll get into later. The flagship song, "Think Twice", is probably the best track of that harder-rockin ilk. They all sound close to the same, and only a few are close to single material. Its a good listen, all together, and good for passing the time.
Now, the stand-out track on the album is "Hey Montana". Of all these alt-rock tunes clamoring for attention, this slow-moving, country inspired tune reaches out and slaps you in the face. It is like nothing they have ever done, and shows tremendous range. I completely lost my mind when I heard this one. Incredible. Wonderful. It shows some incredible potential and a possible change in direction for these guys. In a world where every alt-rock band sounds the same, this is refreshing. They have always been, in my estimation, a head above the rest of the crowd they get lumped into, and this album pushes them further up. Brilliant effort, I'm givin them a 4 of 5.
