Review
Now, this is my first album review, so be gentle.
I was a fan of the movie, as my review states. Part of that was the way the music contributed to the pace of the movie. Sitting in the theatre, I found myself moving to the music, watching the action move to the music. I could hear some familiar sounds: Rob Zombie (fronting Drowning Pool), Nickelback, and some new sounds, most notably Evanescence. So, I went out and bought the album. Let me tell you what I thought.
The first track (I'm not going track-by-track. I may be new, but I know that much) "Won't Back Down" by Fuel is the signature track of the movie. The video is full of Daredevil imagery, as is "For You" by the wretched The Calling. The first is a great tune, the second is not. I hate The Calling. The Nickelback, although it sounds new, was originally released on their first, limited album "Curb". Now, those new fans (I am one, but my best friend is not) are saying "Its new!! Its not on the re-release!" No, but that's what is called creative marketing.
The Rob Zombie fronting Drowning Pool (their lead singer died last year. Drugs) is great. Just a pure jammin track, although it is the most commercial. Its called "The Man Without Fear", and the chorus includes the lyrics "Come on, come on, come on, come on, DAREDEVIL!". Yeah, like that. One of the other notable tracks is the Finger Eleven tune "Sad Exchange". I love that tune as well. They are a great band, and I never realized that until I heard their version of Kane's theme on the WWE Forceable Entry last year. Wonderful.
However, among all these tracks specifically written for the movie, there emerged two shining gems. "Bring Me To Life" and "My Immortal", both by Evanescence. The first, their first single, is, in my mind, the single of the year. It blew me away the first time I heard it, and even now, 7 months later, it still does. The other is an incredibly depressing ballad, but is the most effective song on the disc. They both just destroyed me. I'd have to say that this disc introduced the world to the freshest and best act in a long time.
The rating (I'm still working that out, really) on this disc is high. I'm giving it a 4 out of 5. Go get this one. All commercialism aside, this is the best soundtrack of the year.
