My Thoughts
And, now the latest and last from Creed. Yes, the explosive combination of Scott Stapp and Mark Tremonti has finally let loose, leaving a legacy of hurt egos, overblown songs, and lightly veiled religious music for us to enjoy. After only three major albums, My Own Prison, Human Clay and Weathered, they have released this final compilation of singles and hits. I kind of think that this is more label than band releasing this, but I smell Stapp's stamp on this as well.
Now, I like Creed. I have looked past the bull that the lead singer has pulled over the years, and I enjoy their music. Their first album was very dark and negative, my favorites being the title track "My Own Prison" and the sort of positive "One". Now, its with their second effort, Human Clay that all the controversy started. With "Higher", they achieved mainstream status. I find it funny that in the video, you have scantilly clad women, while Stapp sings meaningfully about heaven. Such hypocracy. It was during and after this album that the tension between Stapp and the rest of the band began to increase. Aftet this, the bass player left, and Mark Tremonti had to pick up that duty for their next album, Weathered. I really liked Weathered, and my favorite song is on here. "Bullets" is just a pure adrenalin-pumped song, and it still makes me rock out.
Earlier this year, the band broke up. Tremonti and the drummer stayed together and renamed themselves Alterbridge. Their first single is all right, and they're probably going to be fairly successful. As for Scott Stapp, who knows? Maybe he's on a one way ticket to relative obscurity. Maybe he's got an album coming out. We'll see what happens. Anyway, the collection of hits here gets a 4. Very enjoyable to listen to.
