My Thoughts
Essentially, this is the collaboration of the musicians from the defunct Rage Against the Machine and Chris Cornell, former solo artist and lead singer of the defunct Soundgarden. Now, I was never a Soundgarden fan, but I did enjoy some of Cornell's short-lived solo stuff. And I could never really get behind Rage's garage band sound. Therefore, I waited to hear a few singles before buying the disc. Those two singles were "Like A Stone" and "I Am The Highway". Both were exceptional, and I finally bought the album. Of course, I was blown away.
The entire disc is an exceptional melding of the rough music from Rage and the heartfelt vocals of Cornell. Less grating than Rage, and more meaningful than Cornell's solo stuff. Some songs are about love, some are about social problems, and others are philosophical journeys. My favorite lyrics are from "Exploder", track 9.
'There was a man who had a face
That looked a lot like me
I saw him in the mirror and
I fought him in the street
And when he turned away
I shot him in the head
Then I came to realize
I had killed myself'
Mind blowing. And most of the songs have deep lyrics like that. And it just rocks. I enjoy this album evrytime I put it into the cd player. So, its getting a 5. Without question.
