Mt Thoughts
Three Doors Down,in a lot of ways, was my introduction into the world of hard rock in 1999. Their first release was the first real hard rock album I bought, and it really blew me away. Form start to finish, the disc was solid, hard rockin and still provides an enjoyable listen. Their sophomore album, 2002's Away From The Sun, was another solid outing. A little less hard, a little more whiny, but still it was solid. One of the best of 2002. They took their time on the road, and the loneliness of it and turned into a hell of an album.
So, the release of this third album naturally filled me with joy. The first single, "Let Me Go" was kind of whiny, bu the second single, "Behind Those Eyes" more than made up for it. When I bought the disc and listened to it, I noticed the pace doesn't actually get faster than "Behind Those Eyes". In fact, the whole album doesn't really rock very much at all. There are some very good tracks, like a duet with Bob Seger, of all people. But, most of the tunes have the same tune, and the same lacksadasical pace. Yeah, there are shining moments, but most dwell in the boring doldrums of mediocraty. Too bad too. They had promise. Maybe next time. Its getting a 3.
