My Thoughts
This is the third effort from Chicago based band, Disturbed, and quite frankly, its an entertaining listen. Their first disc, The Sickness from 2000, recently became one of my favorite discs in my collection. I'm a late comer to the actual album, but it stayed in my cd player for months. It was hard, uncompromising, and primal.
Their second disc, Believe, from 2002, was a departure from the original sound. It left behind the primal, hard-hitting sound and it moved into a more melodic, almost spiritual sound. It had its moments, and it showed definate growth, but was not nearly as good as the first.
Now, with the third, we get a sort of hybrid sound of the two albums. It has the melodic qualities of Believe, including actual guitar solos and a very sophisticated sound. Along with that, it adds the same primal, growling, uncompromising lyrics of The Sickness. They take on some political and social issues, as well as relationships. Plus, they cover "Land of Confusion" from Genesis. It sounds fantastic, and that's coming from someone who considers this song to be the best 80s song out there. It has a new spin, and I thoroughly enjoy this version.
Needless to say, its the best album I've picked up since Fozzy's All That Remains. And its getting a 5.
