The Halloween Episode:
Just when I thought this show couldn't get any better… Joss Wheldon proves me wrong yet again! This is a great hour of fun and laughs from the first five minutes all the way through until the last! Buffy is off to a rocking start this year, and if Wheldon can keep up the pace, the show rightly deserves to be in 1st place! Now, on with the brief synopsis……..
Halloween Day is rapidly approaching, and as usual the Buff is bummed out - this time, still over Parker. As the Scooby gang carves pumpkins (everyone but Buff who apparently feels she is already efficient enough with a knife), we find that the whole group is going to go to a Frat Halloween party! Wahoo!
Buff checks with Giles if this is cool, and you gotta see Giles in the sombrero outfit to really believe it. No biggie Buff - off you go for some fun with the friends. Anya corners Xander, and low and behold the X-Demon will be joining them as well…..
Meanwhile Oz and Xander loan the Frat boys Oz's sound system, while said dopey frat boys paint an evil symbol on the floor (hmmm… there's gonna be trouble me thinks!)
Part II has the house taking on a personality of it's own - it's "feeding off fear" and getting a pretty big meal by the looks of it! By the time our Buffy Gang shows up, the house is really coming alive (literally). The gang wanders through the house looking for the party (always a problem at Frat houses I've found)… but alas, not even a mouse…
Now things cook up…. The doors, windows, and stairs disappear - the house is re-decorating itself! (Expensive but very cool). It uses the fears of the gang to separate them, and eventually bring them together again upstairs (near the evil symbol). Xander feels invisible; Oz starts to morph into hairy boy; Willow feels Buffy doubts her potentials, and Buff is just plain feeling like the unluckiest gal around!
Back at the ranch, we see Anya (who wins costume comic #1 as a big bunny) has nabbed Giles to come help her save Xander (and oh yah, the rest). The house is alive and trapped them inside with all the food and beer. Off they go, Bunny and Sombrero man to the rescue.
Giles cuts a door with an "Evil fighting" Dewault chainsaw, and Anya and he go in search of the gang. Finally everyone is on the top floor and ready to kick the Fear Feeding Demon waiting to escape. Giles reads from the book (a quick Gaelic translation); Buff jumps the gun by destroying the symbol - and out comes the Fear Demon (about 3 inches tall). Buff squashes the guy - and all is well in Sunnydale once more!
Back at the pad we get Giles's closing humor to cap off a GREAT episode!
Giles: "I should have read the fine print under the picture."
Buffy: "What's it say Giles?"
Giles: "Actual Size!"
This episode was really a lot of fun, and seemingly quite typical of the episodes we have seen so far this season! I am REALLY looking forward to watching this new season of Buffy!
