An unknown Utricularia spp

Geert van Huijgevoort had asked me to get an ID on the following plant, my guess was U. reniformis with the possibility (due to the bromeliad lifestyle) of it being U. nelumbifolia. However, upon doing a little research the plant was identified by Fernando Rivadavia-Lopes as being U.humboldtii. This makes sense as my suggestions are both SE Brazilian, not Guyanan.

All photos (c)copyright to the photographer (2000).

Above is the flower.

This is the bromeliad the plant was growing in, showing some round leaves at the base of the bromeliad and the flower stalk coming out at the top left. The photo was taken from 2 meters away so may be slightly less than optimal...

Here is the info that came with the photos...

> The plant grows on top of the Kaieteur Fall in
> (former Brittish) Guyana in an ever humid
> environment because of the "mist" that is created
> by the fall. The flowers are about 2-3 cm. in
> diameter and the flower-stem was about 50 cm long.

Below are some more pictures, supplied by Geert, of the habitat, including bromelaids with frogs. Firstly there is a Drosera spp...

And finally, the famous Kaieteur Falls.
