IJLW Brazil 3
(Belcher, Donkin, Harrison)

Sporting Gibbon 1

Team: Andrews, Toms, Kennedy, Churchley, Lambert, G. Clark (C), P. Clark, Smith, Belcher, Blair, Donkin.

Subs: Davison, Harrison, Fox, Andy.

Brazil were hoping to carry on in the vain of form that they were in from last week, and indeed intially it did look that way, with Gibbon rarely getting possesion in the first 5 mins. A superb cross from G. Clarke found Belcher steaming in at the back post, only to see a simple header sent well wide of the target. The new attacking combination of Donkin and Blair worked well, both linking up with one another, but some good early moves failed to yield any goals. At this stage Brazil were playing some fantastic flowing football, but all the pressure did not lead to that elusive first goal. Belcher again found space down the left but elected for the near post shot instead of the easier square ball to the unmarked Blair. Good work from Blair saw him pull the ball back to Donkin who missed it, it fell to Belcher, but his shot was woefully wide, infact it was crap. He made amends moments later sending Donkin clearly to score only for a very later flag to rule it out for offside. A long punt up field from Churchly saw Belcher run through and nip in front of the defender to toe poke it past the keeper for a well deserved Brazil goal 1-0. Minutes later Brazil grab a second, as Donkin broke the offside trap to round the keeper and slot in home through the defenders legs 2-0. Brazil seemed to relax at this point letting Gibbon start to string some passes together, but they rarely troubled Andrews in goal, with the 2 centre backs – Churchley and Lambert coping well.

Second Half

Brazil never really started the second half, and looked almost dazed at times as Gibbon poured forward trying to get something from the game. After gifting Gibbon lots of space, Toms was put into the centre of midfield to shore things up, with Davison coming on for P.Clarke and slotting in at right back. Brazil looking tired now, let Gibbon run at them forcing a number of corners which Andrews confidently dealt with. Lax defending allowed Gibbon to pull one back via a deflection off Kennedy. The manager took off the tired Donkin and replaced him with the hungover Harrison almost to immediate effect as Harrison on one of his characteristic headless chicken runs, stole through the middle of the pack to slot the ball under the keeper. This seemed to settle brazils nerves abit and they began to look abit more lively, but neither goal was rarely threatened in the last 20mins.
Final Score 3-1

Ref- 9/10.
