Daystar Shackle Installation
After some research and a few phone calls to Daystar, I found out that shackle part number KG30002 will fit the ZR2 suspension perfectly. It is approximately 2 inches longer than stock so you should gain about 1" in ride height. Daystar told me that the part was made for a Scout ( I think), but the dimensions fit the GM springs perfectly. You can't order from Daystar unless you are a wholesaler so they sent me to a place called Off Road Unlimited. There is a guy there who used to work for Daystar so they were pretty helpful. The cost of the kit was $49.99 plus $11 for shipping from Arizona to Wisconsin for a total of $60.99.
The kit came with two new shackles and all new hardware. I re-used the stock bolts because they were a grade 10.9 and the stuff Daystar sent was an 8.8, but either one should be fine. They sent nylock nuts and everything was very high quality.
The install was pretty simple and took me about 2 hours. If you can get a friend to help, that time should be under an hour. I used two jacks and some wood blocks to get the weight off the suspension. Then I unbolted the stock shackles, the upper end of the rear axle track bar, and both shock mounts so the axle was free other than the driveshaft. I then raised the truck a few more inches and put the new shackles in place making sure that everything was tight. Then I let the truck back down slowly until the track bar and shocks lined up and bolted everything back together.
