UK Explosives and Improvised
Weapons Forum FAQ 8th Jan 2001 Written by J
1. What's the UK forum about? The forum is for people from the UK to discuss explosives, improvised weapons, and other similar topics. The sub-headings give the appropriate topics (e.g. Improvised Weapons, Explosives, Misc).
The main forum has grown steadily in membership from a small web-board with a few members to a fair sized online community! It was decided by some UK members that a UK specific board would complement the main board, allowing people from the UK to discuss our favourite hobby :-) Since the UK has vastly different laws to the US with regards weapons and explosives, getting hold of them or making them present new problems. A main problem is sourcing chemicals which can be bought from pyrotechnics suppliers in the US without any problems due to the fact that making fireworks in the US is legal, while the legal position here is open to interpretation.
Since the forum is UK specific you'd be better off sticking to the main forum if you're not from the UK. Having said that, everyone's welcome, as many other European countries have similarly oppressive laws regarding firearms, weapons and pyrotechnics.
Harmless discussion of theoretical procedures and ideas are not illegal, our society isn't that oppressive yet. Of course, none of us actually do anything illegal, we carry out advanced computer simulations where necessary. When posting information about procedures that you have carried out, remember that they are theoretical when you are wording the post ;-)
One thing that none of us on the forums like is a 'kewl bomber'. This term (originally coined in rec.pyrotechnics or alt.engr.explosives I think) refers to someone who has no interest in how things work, but just wants other people to tell him how to make a 'nice loud bomb out of household ingredients'. These people tend to be unintelligent and lazy. If this sounds like you, then you're not welcome and will be banned. Newbies are welcome, but follow newsgroup etiquette and lurk for a while before posting anything. Search through the archives on this and the main forum to see if your question has been answered already to avoid being flamed. Also check out the rest of the FAQ for (wait for it!) frequently asked questions!
Being banned means that your user name and posts are deleted, and you can't register with that username or the email you used to register it. Of course, you could register a new email address and come back to harass us under a new name, but believe me it's only a few mouse clicks to delete that one too. It's also possible to ban your IP address if your on a static (non changing, e.g. university connection, cable modem) connection, or to ban the whole block used by your ISP.
Any question resembling a kewl bomber type question will get you flamed, and if you continue to post stupid questions you'll get banned. If you deliberately (i.e. you're not just stupid!) post inflammatory or stupid questions (trolling) or frequently post off-topic messages you will also be banned.
Before you start to
contribute to the UK forum, check out these sites, in particular the
archives on the original forum.
I. Where to get chemicals. One of the main purposes of the board is to share information about where to obtain useful chemicals. There are several commonly used chemicals that are easily found but many people still ask where to get them. If you know of another source for any of these chemicals, please post :-) Acetone - Chemist There are other chemicals that are widely sought after, but there don't seem to be any reliable sources. Obvious examples are Nitric Acid, Aluminium powder, Magnesium ribbon/powder, Potassium Chlorate/Perchlorate and Iodine crystals. These are all available (perhaps apart from the Iodine crystals), but extremely hard to find. It is possible to get nearly any chemical you'll ever need from a chemical supplier. The problems with this are: Most suppliers won't sell to
private individuals.
You don't. If you were thinking about asking this, kindly piss off.
It is the online version of The Anarchists Cookbook. Both versions are full of information that will either not work, or get you killed. For example, in one procedure the book advises mixing Sodium Chlorate and Sulphur. These two chemicals when mixed together form a very unstable mixture that can ignite (or explode when confined) spontaneously and without warning. This book is often referred to as the 'crapbook'. IV. Is it ok to give out personal info? No! There are two main reasons: 1. You could give out your information to a cop. 2. You could give out your information to some psychopath. There are people on the forum who trade scans of books. This is the most likely situation where you will ask yourself this question. As well as the scenarios above, you could trade with someone who seems OK at the time, but you later get into a flame war with them on the forum and they have your home address! You have theirs too? Unless they were sensible and used a mail forwarding service :-( Another situation could be that someone is offering to sell pyrotechnic chemicals. As tempting as it may be, don't buy them. Instead, ask them where they got the chemicals from and buy them from this source. You should stay as anonymous as possible. Don't use your regular ISP email address unless you signed up using false details. Don't use your real name as part of your nickname. Remember that if the government agencies really want to find out who you are, they will. The anonymity is to protect you from enemies you might make through the forum |
