Haunted Alabama

LIBERTY HILL CEMETERY

A witch was killed here or some farmer was killed here, supposedly hung from a tree, which you’ll drive under on your way down the road. We have researched this and can find no evidence to support the story, but that’s how it goes. The cemetery however is still creepy as hell no matter how true the story is.

DIRECTIONS

Take North Memorial parkway (HUNTSVILLE ALABAMA) until Winchetser road. Turn right and follow Winchester road a few miles down. LIBERTY HILL ROAD will be on your right. Follow the bumpy gravel road through the corn fields. You will see the cemetery located on the left side of the road.

The chance of cops showing up is a minimum risk but always a possibility. So always have a good story ready. Worry more about crazy redneck jocks showing up and forcing you to do drugs and drink alcohol. Uh? That’s a bad thing?

JUNIPER HILL

Juniper hill is conveniently located on your way back from Liberty hill. The story about this place is that there is an albino witch that haunts the woods around the area. She rides a horse naked at night (no I’m not kidding) and if she spots you roaming about she will ride up to you and stare at you until you leave.

We have never seen the witch here, but there is a huge Comcast Cable satellite dish that can very easily kill you, so I guess that’s scary, as is the road you have to drive up to get to the place. Worth checking out at least once.

DIRECTIONS

Take Pulaski Pike going north (HUNTSVILLE ALABAMA) JUNIPER HILL ROAD will be on your left. Turn left and follow the road up the winding one way hill. Be careful, it is easy to wreck you car here.If you are returning from Liberty Hill take these directions. When you come back to MEMORIAL PARKWAY from Winchester, go straight across until you get to PULASKI PIKE, then go left. JUNIPER HILL RD will be on your right.

The risk of getting caught here is a minimum but has been known to happen so watch out for the po po.

MAPLE HILL CEMETERY

The best know story about this cemetery is the dead woman who rocks in her rocking chair at night inside an above ground tomb. There is another story of an angel or devil that appears at the same site if you shine a flashlight on the door. This spot is easily found inside the cemetery. Any one of the concrete paths will take you to it. Also there are many old graves and sculptures and a small section of unmarked graves where unidentified civil war soldiers were buried. These are all white and easy to find as well.

Directions

From Memorial Parkway (Huntsville Alabama) take GOVERNORS Drive going east. Take a left on WHITESBURG DR which will turn into CALIFORNIA. MAPLE HILL will be on the right where the road forks. It is a huge and not very hard to see. The best way to enter is from the side so when the road forks take the fork to the right. The turn right on the first street. You will see a nice spot to park on the side of the road. DON”T drive into the cemetery at night.

The risk of getting caught here varies. I know people that have been arrested here, but that was because they were smoking pot and drinking inside for hours, while being very loud. So don’t take anything illegal in with you. Duck when cars come by and wear black or dark colored clothes, and don’t be very loud. I have never ever been busted here. Just don’t act like a jackass and I’m sure you’ll make it out okay.

DEAD CHILDRENS PLAYGROUND

This is an actual playground right next to Maple Hill Cemetery. There are many stories behind this place. Some say that kids were killed there by a mad man while all their parent’s attended a funeral. It’s all shit. It’s just a small park owned by the cemetery. A place for kids to play while there parents attend funerals. Supposedly late at night the swings on the swing set will move by themselves. But, mostly it’s just a place for Huntsville teenagers to do drugs and drink beer. Worth checking out but don’t stay long. And if some hippy girl wants to share a joint with you, be warned it’s laced and you won’t be right for about 12 hours.

DIRECTIONS

From California turn right just before you reach to cemetery. On the left you’ll see a gravel/paved/dirt road. Normally it is barricaded off at night so you’ll have to park on the side of the street and walk.

The risk of this place varies, sometimes cops patrol the place sometimes they don’t. Just don’t fuck around and you’ll be fine. Don’t try and drive up the road just walk. And if you see head lights hide.

CRY BABY HOLLOW

I think that there is one of these in every town, but I can assure you this is close to the creepiest one I have ever been to. The story is that a lady wrecked her car of the bridge, but never found her baby after the accident. Late at night you can hear the baby cry. I’m not sure about the crying business but if you leave a Baby Ruth candy bar on the bridge it will disappear. Some people like to sit on the bridge in there car and wait for the babay to come get the candy bar, we normall drive to the end of the road, turn around, then come back. I would say that this has worked 50% of the times that we have done it. Oh yeah. The real bridge can’t be seen from the road. The one you can drive across is where people usually try this, but if you stop just before the bridge you can see an old trail that leads to the crappy old bridge. Be careful it’s rickety.

DIRECTIONS

Take Memorial Parkway (Huntsville AL) south until you get to highway 36 (about ten miles south of the TN river bridge) take a right on 36 and follow that untill Cotaco Florette RD, where you will go left. CF RD is at a little intersection right by Cotaco middle school and some gas stations. Follow C.F. road until you come to AL-67. Take a left. Drive a couple of miles then slow down and look for ENTREKIN RD. It will be on your left. Turn left and follow it to the stop sign where the gravel/dirt road begins. Then take a left. This will be the road that the bridge is on. You’ll cross a newer bridge with concrete guardrails then the cry baby bridge shortly after. If you stop between the two you can find the trail to the real bridge. It will be on the right.

The chance of getting busted here by the cops is very low. There are no cops in this county. The chance of bumping into crazy rednecks is a slight possibilty, but unlikely.

Kent Robertson Park

A young boy died at this park one summer. The park was renamed after him. Supposedly you can here the boy at night around the park and the wooded area close by. We have never seen or heard anything here, but that’s because the only time we tried to go we were so drunk we got lost, even though the directions are the simplest ever.

Directions

Take Memorial Parkway (Huntsville) South to Logan road. The park will be a couple of blocks down. Impossible to miss. Or is it?

Watch for cops at this place. All parks close at sundown, but the worst you’ll probably experience is a park security guard. Be sneaky.

Ghost Train of Old Railroad Bed Road

Decades ago there was train tracks than ran along this road. The story, which is supposed to be true is, that 2 passengers aboard the train had recently robbed a bank. When they were about to be caught, they highjacked the train, causing it to derail. The train fell into a deep creek. Everyone on board was killed either by the accident or from drowning. Locals have often reported strange light(s) traveling through the trees where the old railroad was. Some have even heard the train. The tricky part to finding this spot is that there is no exact location to look for. The tracks ran parallel to the entire road, so you just have to drive down it for awhile and keep a look out for any odd lights in the tree’s. We have only been here once but we saw the light move very rapidly through the woods, then disappear. We turned around and drove back by, but it didn’t happen again. This happened about 5-8 miles after we turned onto the road. The light was seen on the left. Good Luck.

Directions

Take Jordan Lane (Huntsville) North, it will eventually turn into a small highway but but there are no turns until OLD RAILROAD BED ROAD. This is in Toney Alabama, approx. 15 minutes outside of Huntsville. The Road will be on the right and left we went right, but try your luck wherever.

The only chance of getting hassled by the man is if you drive like shit.

Pickens County Courthouse

Carrolton Alabama

A man named Henry Wells was being held prisoner in the courthouse. During a thunder storm he was staring out the window at an angry mob that awaited his death, when lightning struck the window killing him instantly. Supposedly you can still see Henry's face in the window.

Directions

Carrolton Alabama is thirty miles west of Tuscaloosa. The courthouse is at he intersection of highway 17 and 86. The window where he can still be seen is the one on the lower right hand side of the building.

Sloss Furnace

Birmingham

As many as 55 workers have died in the Sloss furnace since it was built. Many people have investigated the area. Sloss is now closed and used as a place for bands to play and such, every halloween there is a haunted house there. It is a very hard place to go to at night, but possible.

Directions

Just go to Birmingham, anyone can tell you how to get there, or follow the signs from the highway.

Watch for cops, and old creepy guys that are not quite dead.
