We do a British Columbia salmon recipe use Coho, Spring, Pink or Sockeye salmon.

I make a marinade of Soya sauce, fresh shredded ginger, pressed fresh garlic, lemon juice (fresh), tomato paste (about 1 tbsp or just a bit, depends on size of fish), olive oil, dash of balsamic vinegar and about 1/2 cup of dark brown sugar. You can also add some Canadian Club Rye Whiskey (1 to 3 tbsp - depends on how much marinade you use).

Cover fish and marinade for at least 1 hour prior to grilling.

If you grill the salmon directly on the grill - make sure your grill is clean and sprayed with oil. You can also put in foil - but it then becomes more of a poached salmon.

Salmon takes approximately 20 minutes. or until it is opaque and not translucent on a medium heat.

It is really great if you throw in a few Alder tree leaves on the coals or briquettes at the end of grilling and close the lid on the BBQ and smoke for the last 2 to 5 minutes!
