Quick and Easy Signs!

Have a fave saying?

Know someone that does?

Need a quick gift idea?

Try this!

  • Wood. It can be any color of wood. Try to get one with a beveled edge. You can buy these from craft stores all over.

  • Rub-on Lettering. You can buy lettering from an office supply store or a craft store. It usually comes with a craft stick. You use the craft stick to rub the backing and the letter then sticks to the surface of whatever you put it on.

  • Stencils & Craft Paint. (optional)

  • Mod Podge. You can get this from any craft store.  It's a decoupage medium (stuff).

  • An appropriate picture. You can get this off of your computer clip art, off of the net, from a magazine, card and such.

  • a sponge paint brush. Again, from the craft store. They cost about 49 cents.

  • Paper towels (I am messy!)

  • a plastic butter lid, heavy duty paper plate or something similar that you can throw away.

Cut out the picture. Be sure to get as close to the edge of the picture as possible.

Set it on the piece of wood and decide how you want to place it and the wording.

Now, set the picture aside.

Rub the lettering onto the wood as needed for your saying. Or you can stencil the wording, as in the picture above.

Carefully, open the Mod Podge.  Pour some of it onto the butter lid.

**CAUTION:  Use a paper towel to wipe the lip of the Mod Podge off before you close it.  If any Mod Podge is left on the lip or edge, you will NEVER get it open again! Believe me, I have 2 useless jars of it on my craft shelf.

Using the sponge brush, paint a good, yet thin coating of Mod Podge all over the front of the wood.  Cover the lettering.

(Don't worry... it looks like you ruined it, but it will dry clear.)

Now, carefully place your picture on the wood where it belongs.

"Paint" the Mod Podge over the top of the picture.  The Mod Podge under it will hold it into place and the Mod Podge on top will seal it.

Let this dry thoroughly.  If you wish, you may put an additional coat or two of Mod Podge on it to thoroughly seal it.

That's it! It's all done! Too easy, wasn't it?
