Mosaic Eggs

  • 3 inch or 4 inch Styrofoam brand plastic foam eggs

  • sheets of 3/8 inch porcelain tiles in mixed colors

  • Sanded grout in white

  • Hot glue gun and glue sticks

  • Tile nippers

  • Fine point permanent marker

  • Soft rags

  • Protective goggles

  • Work gloves

  • Mixing buckets

Skill Level:  beginner

Directions:  (Directions are for one egg, always wear eye goggles and gloves when cutting tile and applying grout)

1. Peel tiles off backing; sort by color.

2.Using marker, draw desired design lines on egg.

3.Starting in center of egg and working toward ends, glue tiles to egg, leaving small spaces between tiles.  To glue, apply small drop of glue to back of tile; press onto egg.

4.Using nippers, cut additional tiles to fill any large gaps between tiles, if needed.

5. Following package directions, mix grout.

6. Using fingers, spread grout over tiles, pushing grout into spaces between surfaces. Let stand for 10 minutes.

7. Wet rag; wring out thoroughly. Wipe grout off tiles.  Let set for another hour; wipe again. 

8. Let dry overnight.

9. Buff egg with dry rag until shiny.
