What's New?

Coca-Cola is planning to launch a mint-flavored version of its Sprite brand called Sprite Ice. The drink is planned for the Canadian and Belgian markets later this month, however if it is successful it could be rolled-out in other markets. Coke had previously tried a mint-flavored Sprite in Italy. An ad campaign in Canada is planned for May and will be packaged in clear blue plastic bottles with blue and silver graphics. Sprite Ice will also be available in 12-can packages.

PepsiCo announced that it is to launch a vanilla version of its brand as it unveiled its plans for its annual summer battle with rival Coca-Cola. It had been widely speculated that Pepsi would look to emulate the success of Vanilla Coke, and on the 9th of April, the Purchase, NY, food and beverage company confirmed it will introduce Pepsi Vanilla late this summer. No specific launch date was announced.

PepsiCo also unveiled a number of other product promotions it hopes will drive soft drink sales this summer, including giving consumers the chance to win US$1 billion. The promotion, called "Pepsi Play for a Billion," will see 1,000 contestants competing for US$1m. That winner will then have another 1-in-1,000 shot at $1 billion live on AOL Time Warner Inc.'s (AOL) The WB Network. Pepsi wouldn't reveal the details of the two-hour game show, but said it would be marked by building suspense as the pool of contestants got weeded down to the final winner. The show will be promoted with TV advertising and through AOL Time Warner's television, publishing and online mediums.

Dr Pepper/Seven Up will join New Line Home Entertainment in promoting the home entertainment release of "The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers." The Dr Pepper/Seven Up national promotional campaign will include a mix of marketing activities, such as national advertising, in-store and interactive lobby displays, product packaging, and internet support.

From me, CG

It sure is nice to be back states-side again - especially with a killer-virus going on back where I came from. But, as usual, the pace has picked up, and I have many things to do. The latest issue of Bottles & Extras went out in the mail this past week. Where does the time go? Even now, I have already begun the next issue, which won't hit the mail until July.

There are many upcoming shows - so hope everyone takes advantage of those close enough to attend. I plan to be at a few this round - especially the FOHBC National Show in Louisville, Kentucky, June 28-29. It would be great to catch some of you there - or perhaps you can catch me. :) I don't run too fast, so it would be an easy task.

Until next week,
From me, CG

FYI : eBay sets the dates for its second annual eBay Live! Community Conference

Thousands of eBay Buyers and Sellers Nationwide are Expected to Attend the Three Day Event in Orlando, FL from June 26-28

Registration has begun for eBay’s second annual community conference, eBay Live! 2003, which will take place in Orlando, Florida, from June 26-28. The two-and-a-half day event brings the eBay marketplace to life as members of the community gather to celebrate their passions for buying and selling on the world’s online marketplace.

eBay Live! offers daily eBay University classes for users of all levels, tradeshow booths, live auctions, a gala party, and presentations by eBay executives, including a keynote speech from President and CEO Meg Whitman. During the keynote speech, Whitman will acknowledge the collective accomplishments of the individuals, retailers and entrepreneurs who comprise eBay’s community, as well as speak to the exciting opportunities that lie ahead for members in 2003.

“eBay Live! 2003 is a celebration of the stars of eBay, the people of our community,” said Jeff Jordan, senior vice president and general manager, eBay U.S. “Being in touch with the needs of our community is a top goal of ours. At eBay Live!, we have the chance to meet our members face to face, introduce new initiatives that will help them be successful buyers and sellers, and show our commitment to their businesses.”

Building on the success of last June’s inaugural community conference, attended by more than 5,000 community members, eBay expects even more to attend this year’s event at the Orange County Convention Center in the heart of Orlando. eBay Live! creates a common ground for buyers and sellers—from diverse backgrounds—to share their stories, have fun and improve their eBay skills.

The agenda, which features programs for all levels of eBay users, includes the following:
